After a flashback to Alex’s past, the zoo animals - Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, Private, Mason and Phil - prepare to return to New York in an airplane piloted by the penguins and joined by King Julian, Maurice and Mort. Unfortunately, it runs out of fuel and they crash land on a mysterious land, with the penguins and chimpanzees offering to stay behind and repair it. The rest of the zoo animals realize they are in a nature reserve in Africa and while Marty, Melman and Gloria fit in, Alex is reunited with his long-lost parents, alpha lion Zuba and his wife Florrie (unnamed in the film). In a scheme to oust Zuba as an alpha lion, Makunga insists Alex must complete a rite of passage which Alex mistakes for a talent contest. It’s actually a fighting contest and Alex is tricked into choosing the strongest lion, resulting in his humiliating defeat. Rather than banish his own son, Zuba names Makunga the new alpha lion and is disappointed that Alex isn’t the “King of New York” he thought he was. When the watering hole dries up, Alex offers to investigate upriver and also mends his friendship with Marty. But can even the two best friends be able to bring back the water even though there are humans there?
Just like the previous film, I also like this one, for being humorous and adventurous. The plane was hilarious and the crash landing was equally humorous. The music and scene all blend in perfectly, creating a good enjoyable atmosphere. Just like before, Alex has great moves! A great film to watch for the entire family, for all the laughs to share!
