Xbox One - Decent Console for Decent Gaming

Xbox One - Decent Console for Decent Gaming

While PlayStation and Nintendo may feature great exclusives on their platforms, which very well known worldwide, this didn't stop Microsoft from unveiling their next console for the eight generation. Marketed as an "all-in-one entertainment system", it's no secret that I came to love the system for what it is, only caring about playing a good game and watching DVD, and while I was close to getting PS4, Microsoft is now heading in the right direction in gaming and allowing gamers to try great games. Of course I'm talking about Xbox One.

As with most consoles, there are a lot of variations of this console that improve upon the system, but I'll try to focus on the original. After going through the obligatory set-up, I was greeted by a home screen which was good, it showed the recent game I play and the Microsoft Store was decent. The console can play DVDs, but requires a separate app, "Blue-Ray Disc", to run DVDs and, of course, Blu-Rays. It can't play CD-Rs. As an entertainment system, you can watch YouTube, Netflix, BBC iPlayer and so on.

While it wasn't hard to find game discs (sometimes I can buy them from a second hand store), installing them can be a chore: it almost took an entire night to install Lego Dimensions! That aside, I had the pleasure to play Lego Marvel Superheroes, Lego Marvel Avengers, Transformers Devastation, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, Lego Batman: Beyond Gotham and Disney Infinity. The controller was very comfortable to use and hold, making my gaming experience enjoyable. It is a sad shame that I wasn't able to keep the game discs since I got Xbox One S.

So yes, it's a good console for what it is, faults and all. The fact that you can now play full games through a separate subscription is a great bonus. You could try tracking down the original console, but personally, either get Xbox One S or Series S/X, to play games at a higher frame rate and maybe some 4k gaming. The choice is yours to make.
