Brawlhalla - A Widely Available Brawler

Super Smash Bros is one of the greatest fighting games made, even the first of its kind made for Nintendo products. You can play as your favorite Nintendo characters on a stage based on one of their popular games. It evolved and eventually included characters from various IPs. Because it's a game exclusive to one platform, not many of us can get to play it without buying the system, limiting how many players can play the game. In 2014, a new game inspired by Super Smash Bros was shown, going open beta in 2015 and eventually a full release in 2017 for Windows/Steam, macOS and PS4 (2018 for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch). Its name is Brawlhalla.

In Brawlhalla, you choose a character called a "Legend" based on a historical or mythological character and after a little "warm-up" as the game loads up, you enter a random stage. Depending on the game mode you play in, you either have to knock the opponents off the stage to rack up points (solo or as a duo) or be the last one standing on the platform against one opponent. Random items will fall from the sky, a weapon or object, which you can pick up to fight the opponents. Keep watch of your health: it'll go from white to red the more damage you take, which determines how far away you're thrown out of the stage. Don't worry: the game has a Training mode for you to hone your moves and learn how to play each Legend you choose. The game is free-to-play, but you can purchase things for in-game currency (earned by leveling up, Daily Missions and matches) or the premium Mammoth Coins (earned by using real money). All Legends separately with in-game coins or Mammoth Coins, with the option to get all the present and future Legends by purchasing the DLC.

Pretty much what makes Brawlhalla better is its availability: you can play it on a weak laptop or the latest console: PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series S/X (you need Xbox Live Gold to game online) and Nintendo Switch (yes, the same platform as Super Smash Bros Ultimate) it's even available on iOS and Android, it's easy to learn and it's the best game to just pick up and play on whatever system you have. I played it once and I'll gladly play it again on my YouTube channel.
