One night in Detroit, Axel Foley’s attempt to bust a chop shop full of car thieves goes completely wrong when his boss, Inspector Todd, gets killed by the group’s leader and gets away, no thanks to Secret Service Agent Steve Fulbright. After Todd’s funeral, Axel, determined to bring the criminal to justice and against Fulbright’s orders, follows clues that point to Wonder World, a Beverly Hills (I think you know what comes next) theme park owned by “Uncle” Dave Thorton. Axel goes to Beverly Hills, reunites with Billy Rosewood and goes to Wonder World to investigate. Touring the park’s behind-the-scenes facilities, Axel is ambushed by security, but escapes in the Spider Ferris wheel, only for the ride to get jammed. This puts two kids in danger, but Axel rescues them and attacks Ellis DeWald, Wonder World’s head of security and the man who killed Todd, but the police refuses to believe it since DeWald keeps a very impeccable public reputation. Alone to fight crime once again, will Axel Foley prevent DeWald’s grand scheme?
There’s really nothing for me to say about this film that Eddie Murphy himself didn’t, that this one is the lowest movies that breaks no new ground. It’s dismal, quite awful and misses Axel’s trademark weapon - his mouth. The gimmick of this film - the theme park - still adds nothing for the film, like nothing at all. The guns and weapons are all great and ridiculous - seemingly the only thing that could redeem this film, along with… everything else. There apparently another sequel coming up that’s said to redeem the franchise, which I think is even more unnecessary. Honestly, stick to the first two films and only watch this one if you have to.
